Student Council

Honowai Student Council consists of officers and class representatives that serve both the students of Honowai and their community. The six (6) officers: President, Vice President, Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, and Sgt. at Arms work as a team in order to lead their council. Fourth and fifth graders, at the end of the school year, who are interested in running for office, are able to with their parent consent, teacher recommendations, and specific obligations that they’re required to fulfill. Once elected through the voting process (grades 3-5 students are eligible to vote) officers are expected to carry out their duties:

  • President: presides over meetings
  • Vice President: presides when the president is unable to/assists president
  • Corresponding Secretary: takes care of all correspondence
  • Recording Secretary: takes minutes for all meetings
  • Treasurer: keeps track of all income and expenses
  • Sgt. at Arms: takes roll and ensures that meetings run smoothly

Two (2) class representatives from each 4th, 5th, and 6th grade class is nominated and elected by their homeroom classes to work alongside the officers. Each representative is expected to attend all meetings. They are responsible to report back information to their classrooms, and help the officers in planning various activities throughout the school year.

Student Council serving both the students of Honowai and the community plans, prepares and implements a number of activities and service projects throughout the year. Service projects include Aloha United Way Penny Drive, Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive, and the Leadership Camp Service Project, where the officers put together care packages for children in need. Student Council also arranges school activities such as: Welcome Back Assembly, Spirit Weeks, SHR Day Readers, Jump Rope for Heart Assembly, Drug Free Assembly, Spring Dance, Talent Show, and the end of the year Awards Assembly. Together, using teamwork, the student council officers and class representatives work together to represent Honowai with their ALI’I SCHOOL SPIRIT & PRIDE!
